"It is always darkest just before the Day dawneth"
~ English theologian and historian Thomas Fuller
The Resurrection of Jesus Christ is the centre point of Christian faith, belief, ideology, scripture, tradition, and mission. Indeed, the concept of "Christianity" as we understand it today might not even exist if it were not for the events surrounding Jesus's death and resurrection. The exact events surrounding the resurrection have been debated over and philosophized by historians, theologians, and clergy members for centuries. That being said, however, the core spiritual truths and revelations found in the events surrounding the resurrection of Jesus have remained the same for over two thousand years and have served as the essence and crux of historical, traditional, and contemporary Christian belief.
~ Moments before his death, Jesus puts total faith and trust in the promise of new life and resurrection, saying: "Father, into your hands I commit my spirit". Through his teachings, actions, and unwavering commitment to his father, Jesus teaches us to believe in the promise of hope and resurrection even in our darkest hours. With that being said, resurrection can be though of as renewal of spirit, whether literally through the process of actual resurrection, or symbolically through God's unwavering promise of hope even in our toughest moments in life. The bible teaches us the promise of "light at the end of the tunnel", so to speak.
The empty tomb described by the gospels provides us with a haunting, riveting, and hopeful picture in our heads that serves as a verification to the resurrection of Jesus Christ. Jesus christ escaped, both literally and symbolically, the tomb of darkness, despair and death that bound him to the earth where he would slowly decay. Jesus died out of love and forgiveness for humanity, and was ultimately set free and made one with the kingdom of heaven through the grace of God! "God is victorious, Jesus is lord!".
Significance of Jesus's Resurrection in relation to Christian theology…
Jesus ultimately died out of unconditional love and forgiveness towards humanity! Love and forgiveness are the bread and butter of Christian faith! These virtues are the essence of what it means to be a christian!

Significance of Jesus's Resurrection in relation to Christian theology…
- The recognition of Jesus as the true son of God. Before Jesus's death, many viewed Jesus as a radical idealist with marvellous ideas, but also viewed him as naive, unrealistic, and a danger to society. After his resurrection, Jesus became known as the "messiah", or the true son of God!
- The truths and teachings of Jesus became accepted by society as the true will of God after his resurrection. This was due to Jesus's new status as the human embodiment of God himself.
- God's unconditional love and forgiveness for humanity, and the unwavering promise of new life and renewal of spirit.
